TomTom expands distribution in Baltics countries

TomTom started selling products in Latvia in 2007 directly through a foreign wholesaler's branch office. ELKO Grupa is offering the TomTom GO range as well as the new TomTom ONE and TomTom XL series to major retailers in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

An interesting market Latvia (2.3 million inhabitants), Lithuania (3.4 million) and Estonia (1.3 million inhabitants) are small countries in the European Union; however there is a real demand for navigation products in these markets. Indeed, a Gallup poll from May 2007 indicated that 13.2 percent of the population in Estonia already used a navigation system (for in-car, biking or boating application) while 16.3% were planning to buy one.

In Latvia they were 7.9 to have such product and 19.8% with intention to buy. In Lithuania ownership was at 4.9% and intention at 15.7%. These three markets were above the 15% European average of willingness to buy a GPS at that time.
