Large companies face a huge raise in gas tariffs in Estonia

Large enterprises that use gas may have to pay twice the tariffs since autumn, writes Postimees.

For instance, Iru Power and Heat Station said that it may have to pay double the amount for gas that it consumes for producing heat.

Iru that supplies many Tallinn houses with heat says that from October 1 it will pay not EEK 3,000 per 1,000 cbm of gas, but EEK 6,000.

Toomas Niinemäe, CEO of Iru Power and Heat Station, says that although the negotiations are still open, the monopoly, Estonian Gas, is unlikely to give up in its demands.

„We don’t have an alternative so we have to pay what they demand,“ said Niinemäe.

Estonian Gas itself says that it expects its sales volumes to fall sharply since many large industrial gas consumers have switched to other types of energy sources or have gone out of business.
